Tijuana, Baja California, México.- Aiming to strengthen collaboration among film industries in northern Mexico and promoting regional talent, the Secretariat of Economy and Innovation (SEI), through the Undersecretariat of Creative Industries, invites the public to enjoy the film showcase "División del Norte: Episodio 2", featuring ten short films created by filmmakers from Baja California, Chihuahua, Nuevo León, Sonora, and Sinaloa, announced Abelardo Vázquez Ramos, Undersecretary of Creative Industries.

Screenings in Baja California will take place on July 30 (Part 1) and 31 (Part 2) at Cine de la Plaza, located at the Ágora de la Plaza Santo Tomás in Ensenada; on August 1 at the Sala Carlos Monsiváis of Cineteca Tijuana (CECUT); and on September 10 (Part 1) and 24 (Part 2) at Sala Cinema Tecate.

The official explained that this initiative is the result of joint efforts among the film commissions of Baja California, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Durango, Nuevo León, Sinaloa, and Sonora, with the objective of expanding exhibition venues for films made in the region and strengthening collaboration among the participating states.

"The showcase represents an opportunity to bring the public closer to the filmmaking talent of northern Mexico and, at the same time, boost the circulation of independent productions that reflect the cultural, creative, and narrative diversity of our region," he highlighted.

The program for "División del Norte: Episodio 2" brings together ten representative short films from northern Mexico. Baja California is represented by "Pedazo" by Nadia Islas (14 min.) and "Los gorriones vuelan de noche" by Hugo Daniel Hernández (16 min.); Chihuahua by "Retiro de la fuerza" by Juan Daniel González Trujillo (30 min.) and "La tela sabe los susurros de la tierra" by Mariana Góngora Reyes (9 min.); Nuevo León by "Cuento de hadas" by Daniela Soria (15 min.) and "Alivios" by Juan Manuel González (19 min.); Sinaloa by "La chica de dos cabezas" by Dano García (13 min.) and "Ohuira, lugar sagrado" by Iris Villalpando (28 min.); while Sonora completes the selection with "Anza 250" by Roberto Preciado Quintana (34 min.) and "Carta al portador" by José Luis Cons (13 min.).

The Baja California short films "Pedazo" and "Los gorriones vuelan de noche" have stood out for their artistic quality and have been recognized at national and international festivals.

"Los gorriones vuelan de noche" has been part of the official selection of festivals such as Shorts México, Berlin Short Film Award, Festival de Cine Global Santo Domingo, Houston Latino Film Festival, and the Ensenada International Film Festival (FICENS), where it won awards for Best Short Film, Best Director, and Best Screenplay, along with accolades for its cast and technical crew.

Meanwhile, "Pedazo" began its international run at the Chicago Horror Film Festival, winning the award for Best Performance, in addition to participating in SHORTFEST Buenos Aires, Shorts México, FICCMadero, and FICENS, where Camarena del Toro was awarded Best Actress.

Hugo Daniel Hernández stated: "For many years I have dreamed of making films, of sharing how I feel and what I think through image, movement, and sound. I studied filmmaking and have been working in the industry for several years; I felt it was time to venture into making my own projects."

Director Nadia Islas noted that "Pedazo" serves as a tribute to producer, co-writer, and special effects head Ángel Frost, whose work was fundamental to the realization of the short film. "Pedazo" is entirely dedicated to the memory of our dear friend, Ángel Frost. His creativity and dedication will forever remain the heart of this work," she expressed.

The Secretariat of Economy and Innovation invites the community to attend the screenings of "División del Norte: Episodio 2" and discover a representative sample of contemporary cinema produced in northern Mexico, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the audiovisual industry and expand exhibition spaces for creators across the region.
