• EMERGENTE BC is a monthly cycle of university short films created by the Baja California Film Commission. 

Tijuana, Baja California.- As part of the program to promote the audiovisual industries, short films from the Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC) Mexicali Campus were presented at the Carlos Monsiváis Film Library of the Tijuana Cultural Center (CECUT), as reported by Abelardo Vázquez Ramos , director of Creative Industries of the Ministry of Economy and Innovation (SEI).  

He explained that the presentation was through the EMERGENTE BC Program and the UABC Campus Mexicali, it is the fourth school that is presented in the second season of the cycle, after CUT University of Tijuana, University of the Californias International (UDCI) and UABC Campus Tijuana. 

EMERGENTE BC is a monthly cycle of university short films created by the Baja California Film Commission, which in its first season was shown in a brewery, while the second season is scheduled on the last Thursday of each month at the Cineteca Carlos Monsivais. 

The short films presented were “Insolación” directed by Rogelio Sánchez; “Jornalero” by Paola Manzano; “The Voice of the West” by Alexandro Bastidas; “Chayo” by Cynthia Blanco and Ángel Cuevas; "Cómo Regar un Girasol" by Joaquín Cariño; “Abrazo de Luz” by Saúl del Palacio; “Algo Mágico Sucederá” by Yeraldín Balcázar and “Estrella” by Jair Chang; who are students of the Bachelor of Audiovisual Media of the Faculty of Arts at UABC Campus Mexicali. 

This event was attended by directors, producers and crew members of some of the aforementioned projects, such as directors Joaquín Cariño, Jair Chang and Saúl del Palacio, as well as makeup and costume designer Nicole Solís, and producer Lukas Jiménez. 

Prior to this exhibition, these projects have had successful tours of festivals, such as "Insolación", which participated in the Macabro Film Festival, the Monterrey International Film Festival (FICMonterrey), Shorts México, the Tequila International Film Festival ( FICTEQ) and at the San Diego Latino Film Festival; “Jornalero” was also selected at FICTEQ and received recognition for Best Regional Documentary Short Film at the Humano Film Festival; and “Estrella” won the Audience Award at the 48-hour University Rally of the Guanajuato International Film Festival (GIFF), as indicated by Javier Espinoza, Cinematography Commissioner, creator of the cycle. 

The EMERGENTE BC cycle will continue with the presentation of the students of Multimedia Engineering at CESUN University, on June 30, starting at 6:00 p.m. at CECUT's Carlos Monsivais Cinematheque.
