Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico. – As part of Youth Month,the Youth Institute of the State of Baja California launches the call for entries for the 2025 Youth Short Film Contest,aiming to promote creativity, critical thinking, and audiovisual expression as tools for social transformation.

The call is open to young people between 12 and 29 years old who reside in the state. Participants may enter individually or as a team. Short films must be 3 to 5 minutes longpresented in Spanish, and must address one of the proposed themes, which revolve around the emotional, social, and identity-related challenges that youth face today.

MAIN CONTEST THEMES:

Let’s Talk About Anxiety, Understanding Depression, A Life with Value, Self-Control, Being a Woman in Mexico, Sexuality, Zero Violence, and Stay Away from Drugs – Choose Your Path.

From mental health awareness to gender equality and violence prevention, each of these topics aims to spark dialogue and raise collective awareness through the cinematic language. Audiovisual storytelling becomes a powerful tool for change, allowing youth to share experiences, strengthen their identity, and help create more empathetic and safer environments.

IMPORTANT DATES:

  • Submission deadline: Friday, August 22, 2025
  • Awards & screening event: Friday, August 29, 2025
  • Venue: State Center for the Arts (CEART), Playas de Rosarito, Baja California

CATEGORIES:

  • Junior: Ages 12 to 18
  • Senior: Ages 19 to 29

The top three entries in each category will be awarded. All participants will receive a certificate of recognition for their contribution.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Copy of a valid ID
  • CURP (Unique Population Registry Code)
  • Proof of address
  • Proof of academic enrollment (if applicable)
  • Birth certificate (for minors)
