• Chefs Gordon Ramsay, Gino D'Acampo and maître Fred Sirieix kick off the second season of their reality show by visiting restaurants in Baja California.

TIJUANA, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO.- Monday, April 15, 2020.- Baja California was headquarters for the start of the second season of the reality show “Gordon, Gino and Fred: Road Trip”, produced and broadcasted by the British network ITV, this was announced by the Head of the Secretary of Sustainable Economy and Tourism (SEST) Lic. Mario Escobedo Carignan.

This program is hosted by renowned international chefs Gordon Ramsay, Gino D'Acampo, and maître Fred Sirieix, who visited the state in September 2019 and dined in local restaurants among attending other recreational activities, such as the Baja 400 race and a wrestling match. Ivette Casillas Rivera, Undersecretary of Tourism stated “It is of great importance for Baja California that international chefs come and witness the gastronomic and tourist wealth that we have and present it in the global market”, emphasized the official.

Gordon, Gino and Fred started activities in Tijuana aboard the “Betty La Bestia” vehicle, visiting Avenida Revolución and two iconic places on that street, including Plaza Santa Cecilia, where they drank mezcal, and Caesar's Restaurant where they witnessed the preparation of the traditional caesar salad, where they invited chef Gordon to make a recreation of it with elements that were in the place. The tour continued at the Hidalgo Market, where they could taste traditional Mexican food such as chicharron and mole, to culminate with a challenge of tasting varieties of chili, such as chiltepin and habanero. 

On the way to Ensenada, the chefs visited Miguel Angel Guerrero, whom they recognized as the pionner of Baja Med-style cuisine. The chef invited them to fish and later they prepared ceviche, so they could live the whole experience of his project “Expedition Baja Med”. Arriving in Ensenada, they moved to Valle de Guadalupe to visit two establishments: La Cocina de Doña Esthela and Adobe Guadalupe. The chefs were received by Esthela Martínez the cook, who told them about the logistics of her kitchen, which includes personally preparing all the dishes, for which she has been working since 2:00 AM. Gordon, Gino and Fred tasted what is called according to the European magazine Food Hub as "The best breakfast in the world": machaca with egg. The chefs Gordon and Gino prepared a meal in appreciation for the restaurant employees and for Tru Miller, from Adobe Guadalupe, whom Fred visited and enjoyed the varieties of nebbiolo and cabernet sauvignon wines from the place. 

Local production was in charge of Omar Veytia, who, additionally of preparing the gastronomic tour included recreational activities for the chefs in several parts of the State, like a Baja 400 off road race between Gordon, Gino and Fred, a wrestling match in Tijuana where the chefs had the chance to show their strength among professional wrestlers. “Gordon, Gino and Fred: Road Trip” will continue its journey in the United States visiting Las Vegas, San Francisco and Los Angeles, among other cities. The program first aired in England in April and can be seen on their official webpage ITV (itv.com).
