Tijuana, Baja California.- The Organizing Committee of the “Víctor Soto Ferrel” 2025 State Film Criticism Contest announces the results of its first edition, held with the purpose of strengthening film critic practice in Baja California and creating spaces for film analysis from diverse and contemporary perspectives.
This edition received 24 submissions from different municipalities of the state, as well as from participants with varied backgrounds and experiences. The jury — composed of Rodrigo Martínez Martínez, Ofelia Ladrón de Guevara, Ana Iribe, and Carlos Rgó — evaluated the works independently and anonymously, following the criteria established in the call for entries and emphasized during the introductory film criticism workshop taught by Cuauhtémoc Ruelas as part of the contest.
After reviewing the scores, the jury approved the following results:
First Place:
Alfredo González Reynoso
Title of the critique: Sueños de un norte dislocado
Prize: $5,000 pesos, certificate, and a set of books from UABC Editorial
Second Place:
Daniela Hernández Morales
Title of the critique: Dime lo que sueñas y te diré quién eres: “Crónicas del otro Norte” por Miguel León
Prize: $2,000 pesos, certificate, and a set of books from UABC Editorial
Third Place:
Laura Isabel Delgadillo Bermúdez
Title of the critique: Entre calles, el diablo y ciudades desconocidas: Crónicas del otro Norte del director Miguel León
Prize: $1,000 pesos, certificate, and a set of books from UABC Editorial

Due to the quality of the submissions, the jury decided to grant three honorable mentions::

The Organizing Committee extends its recognition to all participants, whose proposals significantly enriched this first edition. The quality and diversity of perspectives presented reflect a growing interest in film criticism in Baja California, a fertile ground that is beginning to yield collective results.
This contest aims to establish itself as a meeting space between emerging voices and already-established figures in the field of criticism, contributing to the development of a strong and dynamic community in the state.
