• FICens launches an unprecedented initiative to professionalize and promote the development of new film projects from the north of the country.

Ensenada, Baja California. - With the presence of filmmakers, representatives of the audiovisual industry, and state authorities, the Ensenada International Film Festival (FICens) officially presented the call for entries for PitchLab FICens 2025, a pioneering effort in Baja California that seeks to promote the creation of film projects from the region.

This new program is part of the fourth edition of FICens and is made possible thanks to the support of the Baja California State Government, through the Secretariat of Economy and Innovation, the Undersecretariat of Creative Industries, and the Baja Film Commission, headed by Javier Espinoza Medina.

Anais Vignal, PitchLab coordinator, mentioned that this is an intensive incubator for training, mentoring, and networking for feature-length projects in development—fiction or documentary—that seeks to promote new voices in regional cinema and strengthen the Baja California audiovisual industry.

The call will be open from July 1 to August 15, 2025, and is open to anyone over 18 years of age with proven residency in any city in the state of Baja California. No previous projects are required, but a proven track record of experience or close contact with the audiovisual field is required.

Caleb Triana Romero, Festival Director, added that the main requirement is to have a feature-length project (fiction or documentary) in development that will be filmed in Baja California.

The FICens PitchLab will provide selected filmmakers with personalized mentoring from industry professionals, strengthening both the production portfolio and the narrative of their projects. In addition, it prepares participants to present a competitive pitch to key stakeholders in the audiovisual sector, including funds, platforms, distributors, and co-producers.

Boosting the Film Industry in Baja California

During the launch, FICens' Director of Communications and Promotion, Adriana López, highlighted that this initiative is part of the Promotion and Development Supply Program for the Film and Creative Industries Sector, promoted by the Baja California Business Trust (FIDEM) and the Ensenada Economic Promotion Commission (COPREEN), chaired by Mario Peregrina.

PitchLab will be one of the key initiatives within the Ensenada Film Market 2025, which seeks to build strategic business networks for the sector.

PitchLab's objectives include consolidating film proposals from their earliest stages, professionalizing local creators, and generating a solid community of filmmakers in the state, with the capacity to access national and international fundings.

To view the complete rules and submit projects, interested parties can visit the Festival's official website: www.ficens.com.mx or access the Filmfreeway platform before August 15th.
